My daughter has sucked her thumb since the day she was born. Trying to get her to stop sucking her thumb has been a frustrating experience until we met Doris. Then we heard of Doris and her thumb sucking cessation program. Her program was easy to do and it worked!!
Thumb, Finger or Lip Sucking
At what age should digit/lip sucking be stopped? Usually when the child is ready to stop but the ideal time is around the age of 5 or 6 years. At that time, the permanent teeth will be erupting and when undesirable sucking habits persist, the teeth and especially the upper jaw will be molded around the habit and will not permit proper development of the face and jaws.
It is also possible to break the habit in a younger child to prevent much of the undesirable facial shaping that occurs with it.
This therapy is a very positive way to help a child stop a sucking habit and feel really good about it.
When s/he has been successful, the child has accomplished a HUGE task which makes them feel like they can take care of other obstacles that may come their way.
