 About Me

After graduating from George Brown College in Toronto in 1978 and working in the Toronto area for a year, I moved to the Owen Sound area in 1979 and began working with a Certified Specialist in Orthodontics.  Over the years I have seen what improper tongue behaviour can do to a mouth - all the way from preventing the jaws from developing properly which leads to dental crowding, to the finished orthodontic patient who will never really be "finished" because the tongue keeps pushing the teeth apart. My frustration with not being able to help these individuals led me to search for learning opportunities to fill the gap in my dental hygiene training.  I found such a course in early 2012 and travelled to San Francisco to take the training I needed to provide effective therapy for repatterning tongue muscles.

In October 2019, I travelled to China where I had the opportunity to speak to dentists and orthodontists about myofunctional therapy, mouth breathing and tethered oral tissues.  In the 10 cities where I spoke over a two week period, I showed them how proper muscle function can grow beautiful faces and the importance of having children nose breathe full time during their growing years.  In all, I spoke to over 820 professionals and they want me to return soon.  I'm looking forward to being able to share the knowledge there again in the future.

Living in Owen Sound for the past three plus decades has led me to pursue several interests.  Singing has been a passion for me and I currently sing in a Barbershop Quartet, performing at weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and Valentine's Day.  I also love to play bridge, garden, walking in the summer and snowshoeing in the winter with my dog. My husband and I also have two siamese cats. We have two sons who both live and work in the area so are close by.  One of my sons has blessed us with a beautiful grandson.

BUTEYKO BREATHING

Buteyko Breathing is all about a natural way to achieve optimal health.  It's hard to believe that improper breathing may be the basis for many of our everyday health issues but many people can testify to their improved health after completing the course. (Check out my Testimonial Page)

Buteyko Breathing is a simple way to move from unhealthy to healthy. With symptoms such as: high blood pressure, stress, anxiety, asthma, allergies, obstructive sleep apnea, snoring and many more, you can learn how to breathe in a healthy way to get your body to stop fighting itself and just be healthy. No gimmicks or gadgets, just the power of your own breath.

Change your breathing, change your health, change your life.

OROFACIAL MYOFUNCTIONAL THERAPY

Myofunctional Therapy assists individuals who are (or were) thumb or finger suckers, have finger biting habits, aberrant tongue behaviour (tongue thrust) and even fixes poor table manners! With just a few weeks of therapy, teeth will come together after the tongue is trained to sit on the roof of the mouth where it belongs for chewing, swallowing and breathing.

Proper tongue resting posture and function is IMPERATIVE for proper development of the face and jaws.  It starts with breastfeeding for 6-9 months and weaning to an open rimmed cup at least at family meal times (avoid sippy cups and bottles at all costs!) so the facial bones, tongue and face muscles can develop properly.  Any child who is a mouth breather with a tongue thrust, open bite and vertical growth will grow up to be someone who snores and will likely develop sleep apnoea as well as other health problems.

Myofunctional Therapy has also assisted in relieving the discomfort of temporomandibular joint dysfunction.  When muscles don't have to work to sustain unhealthy positions, the natural ability for the body to heal itself looms large especially when working with patients who have TMJ dysfunction and improper tongue behaviour.
